Conferences and events

The Hellenic National Committee of ICOM organises symposiums, international conferences and professional meeetings. To be more precise, in 1984 it organised an international conference with the participation of Cyprus and Yugoslavia, entitled "The Museum in Contemporary Society". Later on, it engaged in the organisation of annual meetings of several International Committees in Greece. These meetings dealt with "The Architecture of Museums (1985), The Museums of Archaeology and History (1987 and 1997), Museum Education (1988), Museum Documentation (1990), Museology (1993), The Conservation of Icons (1995-2006), Regional Museums (1999), Security Matters in Museums (2000), The Conservations of objects made of leather and textile (2004), Ethnographical Museums (2005), Audiovisuals and New Technologies in Museums (2006)

The proceedings of the above-mentioned meetings, as well as other publications, such as the translation of the manuals "The Conservator-Restorer: A definition of the profession" and "Preventive Conservation in Museums" have enriched in a significant way the museological bibliography in our country.

Benaki Museum - Hellenic National Committee of the ICOM - ICOM-CC Photographic Materials Group ΙCOM CC INTERIM MEETING of the Photograph Materials Working Group Μodern Photographic Materials: identification and conservation Athens, 19-22 October 2010 Benaki Museum CALL FOR PAPERS The Benaki Museum, the Hellenic National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the ICOM-CC Photographic Materials Group, are organizing an International Meeting. The subject of the meeting is: "Modern Photographic Materials: identification and conservation" and it will take place in Athens from the 19th to the 22nd of October 2010. The conference and all related activities will be hosted in the New Benaki Museum, at 138 Pireos street, Athens. The aim of the meeting is to present: different methods of digital printing, their related preservation and conservation issues, results of the latest researches, concerning the restoration of modern photographs, recognition and preservation of color photographs, as well as ethical issues, concerning the digital image. You are welcome to participate in the conference with a paper. Please send your abstract in English to the following e-mail address: c.waldthausen@planet.nl. The abstract should include an introduction, aims and conclusions and should not exceed 500 words. The following information should be included: Name and surname of the author(s), professional status and employment organization, address (street, post code, city), telephone, fax number and e- mail address. The deadline for submission of abstracts is the 30th of April, 2010. Maximum duration of presentation: 15 minutes.
